Jen & Steve's story

(Well....Its not the full story in detail. When I have the time I'll re-write this. heh)

Well it all began in May 1999 I believe. I started playing a game called "Ultima On-line".  Anyway we became friends right away. We talked in the game, in chat rooms, and eventually on the phone. Oh yeah I almost forgot...the first time I heard his voice was from a voice chat program. I was so nervous! As soon as the computer connected the voice system I heard his southern cowboy accent and I just melted! I probably sounded like a dork because I was so nervous I was shaking and I'm sure that he could hear it heh. Below, I wrote a little story about the first time we met in person.

I had been waiting nervously to meet Steve all day. He had planed to move to Sacramento a month ago. Today was the day for him to be in Sacramento after his long drive across the U.S. from South Carolina (October 25, 1999) . He was going to meet me at Skate town Ice Rink at 7:30 pm. It was my usual day to go ice skating for my lessons (on a Wednesday). I could barely drive to the rink as I thought about meeting Steve. I thought, "What if I fall on the rink just as he walks in . . . what great first impression that will give him." I barely ate anything for dinner because I was beyond nervous. I got to the rink a nervous wreck. Skating calmed me down pretty quickly as I tried to focus on practicing maneuvers and tricks on the ice that I have learned from my lessons. The time flew by and it was 7:30 already, but no Steve in sight. The next half-hour was hell, he he, as I kept checking the doors for Steve as I nervously skated round in circles. It was almost 8 pm and we all had to get off the ice so they could clean it. I sat on the bleachers and sat on my hands to keep them warm. I even had gloves on, but since I was so nervous my hands weren’t getting warm for some reason. This was worse . . . I wanted to be on the ice when he came in so I wouldn’t be sitting looking like a wreck. My cheeks were red and flushed and my heart was about to come out of my chest. I decided to stand up so I could dance around nervously and look ridiculous he he he. (just kidding. I’m sure that’s what I looked like) All of a sudden I heard his familiar voice behind me asking, "how’s the skating here?" It was Steve. I squealed with delight and turned around and threw my arms around him tightly. As we embraced my heart raced and I haven’t smiled that big in such a long time. I think I squashed his nose. Being on ice skates you are taller because of the blades. Well, I'm already 5'8" so I probably looked like an amazon heh. I let go of him and smiled at his handsome face and his gorgeous eyes. I asked him if it was all right if I skate for a little bit before we leave. He nodded and smiled at me. I figured he didn’t want to skate since he’d been driving all day long. I showed off a bit and practiced too while he watched from the stands. I tried a spin and fell on my butt. He didn’t see me fall but he saw me get up. I was so embarrassed. After I skated a bit I got off the ice and told him I was done for the evening. I can’t remember who suggested it, but we decided to go get something to eat. He followed me to Denny’s near Hwy. 80. We sat down and I was still nervous. All I ordered was hot chocolate as Steve ordered a whole meal. I was too nervous to eat. We talked about his trip to Sacramento as I smiled and sipped my drink (I probably looked like a lovesick teen drooling over him hehe). Well to make this long story short we dated for a year. We married on October 28, 2000 and have recently celebrated our 4 year anniversary. To this day we are very much in love.  I'll have to say this, if I didn't get the Ultima Online game I would of missed my opportunity to meet my soul mate. The funny thing that we realized is that our characters got married in October of 1999 just before Steve moved to CA and then we were married in real life in October of 2000. Strange coincidence isn't it?!

My parents

This is my mom and dad, Cliff and Marlene Chapman. I owe everything to them. They have been super supportive and overflow me with love and comfort. Unfortunately my dad passed away on  January 30, 2005 of bone marrow cancer. I will place his memorial site here.
